These resources have been created and compiled by the partners of the Social Justice Repair Kit project and cover a wide range of subjects and contexts. They can be used by youth and youth organisations to support the inclusion of young people in social justice movements. Their aim is to support informal learning through activism.

Inclusive Making and Hacking

A guide to creating an inclusive space when hosting hack-a-thons. We believe that the connections and ideas that get made between people attending hackathons and similar events are more important than any products that get produced. If hackathons are about building community, issues of inclusion, exclusion and audience diversity are paramount to their design.

El Planeta es la Escuela

How do we approach the relationship between young people, technology and territory? This methodology seeks to answer this question by proposing a series of activities in which groups of young people can explore opportunities to create innovative projects in the territory, starting from personal or collective stories (in different formats) and using technological tools, adapted to a specific context, to share their stories. #DECARBONIZE #DECOLONIZE is a world-wide synthesis of youth research, recommended policy, and action on Climate Change. Connecting around the United Nations Climate Negotiations, thousands of youth across the planet are mobilizing to learn and act on the continued impact of colonization and repercussions on climate change.

Guardia Ambiental Columbiana (Colombian Environmental Guard)

The Guardia Ambiental is a burgeoning youth movement that engages youth in monitoring and protecting precarious natural ecosystems in Colombia. The Guardians provide abundant opportunities for youth to develop and practice important portable skills and competencies. Currently available in Spanish.

Motivando a la Gyal

M.A.G. is a social platform created by a group of women from “El Valle de Aburrá”, the area that surrounds Medellín city in Colombia. Their main focus is organizing a collaborative, open and creative festival based in 3 themes: sovereignty, technologies, and gender. The goal of the event is to create a space where thinkers, activists, children, mothers, and artists from different contexts can collaboratively build processes, effective (and affective) networks (that contribute in different ways in the remaking of our relations with the world), and advance our thinking in the importance of diversity. Currently available in Spanish.

Inclusive Workplace Toolkit from Colorado Inclusive Funders

With a goal of promoting broader definitions of diversity and inclusion, we were inspired in 2006 to engage in a dialogue with existing and prospective grantees. We aimed to learn how other organizations are committed to furthering equality and inclusion in Colorado, as well as share our own thoughts about what that means.

It is also meant to provide support on how to integrate diversity recruiting and retention techniques into broader day-to-day business and personal activities.

Pillar Network - Board Diversity Toolkit

The goal of this resource is to provide organizations with the necessary information to set and reach your diversity goals. This resource is board governance-focused and will map out how to move from acknowledging and respecting diversity to developing real action-based strategies. This includes developing an organizational diversity goal, a board recruitment process, and tailoring your documents and statements (i.e., vision, mission, values, policies, constitutions and by-laws) to be more inclusive.

York Region Strengthening Diversity Toolkit - Organizational Self-Assessment

This Organizational Self-Assessment Tool is designed to help organizations of all types – private, public and volunteer – better meet the needs of diverse communities. Given the increasing diversity in York Region, this tool is one mechanism that can help organizations become more responsive. Through a series of self-assessment questions, the tool helps to identify potential barriers to serving diverse communities. It also reinforces good practices in the development and implementation of inclusive policies, services and programs.

Learning Differences Program Racial Equity Findings

Oak Foundation’s Learning Differences Programme partnered with Open Source Leadership Strategies to conduct a racial equity assessment of the LDP and to gather insights about the broader field of learning differences. Interviews were conducted with more than a dozen leaders in the learning differences and racial equity fields. Youthpass for ALL (SALTO Youth)

This booklet is intended to guide youth workers and/or youth leaders on how to work with marginalized young people. It begins by looking at learning in the context of Youth in Action activities and goes on to explore how Youthpass can best be implemented.

What is an inclusive culture - Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University

An inclusive culture involves the full and successful integration of diverse people into a workplace or industry. While an inclusive culture certainly encompasses a commitment to workplace diversity, (1) it is not limited simply to basic representation; it indicates a climate in which respect, equity, and positive recognition of differences are all cultivated, and the social and institutional response to disability poses no barrier to a positive employment experience.

Whose Land is a web-based app that uses GIS technology to assist users in identifying Indigenous Nations, territories, and Indigenous communities across Canada. The app can be used for learning about the territory your home or business is situated on, finding information for a land acknowledgement, and learning about the treaties and agreements signed across Canada. Educational videos are available to watch that will give you a better understanding of why land acknowledgements are important, and the way Indigenous people view their relationship to land.

Storytelling Tool

This digital tool is being developed as part of the SJRK project to gather and share stories of youth with learning differences, social justice organizations and others who wish to share their story or create a simple online presence.

Cuentalo

This virtual platform is a space where stories are made visible, creating community through identifying, recognizing and putting into dialogue the different individual and group histories that exist in the city of Cartagena. Currently available in Spanish. The full library of stories can be found on the YouTube channel.

Helping Traumatized Children Learn

The Trauma and Learning Policy Initiative’s (TLPI) mission is to ensure that children traumatized by exposure to family violence and other adverse childhood experiences succeed in school. Massive Open Online Courses for Educators

Students LEAD

Students LEAD (Learn, Explore, & Advocate Differently) was created because all students learn differently. The course was developed to help students, especially those who may struggle with attention, time management, memory, or expressing ideas, understand that they are not alone and that specific strategies can support their learning.

The Difference Between Accommodations and Modifications

Young people with learning differences often need customization of their learning curriculum. This publication addresses the limitations of accomodation and makes a case for the more effective approach of providing custom modifications.

Understanding Individualized Education Program(IEPs)

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written education plan designed to meet the learning needs of young people with learning differences. This guide is designed to help you through every step of your IEP journey. TIGed Learning Platform

TakingITGlobal for Educators empowers classrooms to understand and act collaboratively on the world’s greatest challenges. The platform offers a flexible tool to enable digital classrooms and collaborations across physical locations connected to the internet. There is also a community of teachers, professional development programs and educational resources to support educators in using technology to create transformative learning experiences for their students.

Coding Curriculum

Code to Learn offers free professional learning for Canadians on coding with young people. MicroWorlds coding software is available at no cost to engage youth across Canada. We work with educators and other community members to co-design curriculum activities & Coding Challenges—including the popular micro:bits!

Wikipedia Offline + Kimera Local Network

Kiwix provides access to the entire contents of Wikipedia without an internet connection. It is a part of the Kimera Local Network, which was installed in several rural schools in Fresno, a small town in the mountains of Colombia. Kiwix is available to students and teachers who use the platform to access and upload information, thereby overcoming the connectivity barriers that arise in their context.

Kimera Platform

The Kimera Local Network is a wireless network being developed by Karisma Foundation in Colombia, to address local connectivity needs. People can access the local network through mobiles, tablets, computers and any other device with the option of wireless or wired access.

OER2Go (World Possible)

OER2Go is a collection of educational websites re-packaged for download and offline use. It allows teachers, schools, and other educational organizations to deploy OERs in areas where internet access is limited, expensive, or non-existent.

Rachel (World Possible)

Rachel is a portable plug-and-play server which stores educational websites and makes that content available over any local (offline) wireless connection.

This video provides an overview of the Fluid Project’s User Interface Options (UIO) component, what it offers potential integrators, and its installation instructions. UIO allows users to personalize web content to meet their unique needs.

Preferences Exploration Tool

This tool allows for the exploration of digital preferences in a simple and low-risk way, by offering a set of starter preferences to try - from reading content aloud so it’s easier to follow along, to enhancing keyboard interactions so it’s easier to use.

Chart Authoring Tool

The Chart Authoring Tool supports the authoring, export and embedding of highly accessible charts, including sonification of the data. The current version supports creating pie charts and transforming the data into sonified form via a pattern.

Nexus Integration Technology

The Nexus is a system that connects disparate technologies and enables new and inclusive interactions which can be used to visualize and sonify data as it is gathered. See how sensors commonly found in a science lab can be connected to accessible, sonified graphs in the Nexus Science Lab Video from 2017. See a demonstration of the Nexus being used to inclusively create music using various inputs including a head tracker in the Nexus Inclusive Music Creation Video from 2016.

First Discovery Tool

This tool walks the user through a step by step process of discovering, declaring and storing digital preferences.

Feedback and Metadata Tools

The metadata feedback tool can be integrated into existing sites to allow users to provide feedback as to whether a digital resource matched their preferences and to request alternatives or modifications to improve it. The metadata authoring components can be integrated into existing content editors to encourage and allow authors to create or edit metadata that accompanies the content of their Open Education Resource (OER), thereby improving accessibility.

This publication outlines the rights of young people in Africa and the duties and obligations of African Union member states in fulfilling their obligation to respect those rights.

The World Programme of Action for Youth

This document provides a policy framework and practical guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people. It contains proposals for action for the year 2000 and beyond, aiming at achieving the objectives of the International Youth Year and at fostering conditions and mechanisms to promote improved well-being and livelihood among young people.
